The Prismacolor Premier Pencil Sharpener is a good quality sharpener but is better used on hard wood. The blades get caught on the wood around the core, and this leads to the destruction of the pencils. Clicking sounds are heard when this happens, indicating a snapped core. The lead must be perfectly centered to prevent the sharpener from grabbing more wood on one side. It is recommended to use a hand-held blade to out the wood around the sharpened core. The sharpener is susceptible to gumming and thus requires a #2 school pencil to clean and sharpen the blade. The set of two sharpeners are manually powered and work quietly, providing a very sharp point suitable for colored pencils. It can be used to sharpen charcoal pencils; however, it requires extra care when sharpening softer pencils. The hole is of a standard round size and thus cannot sharpen triangle-shaped colored pencils.
